Who is eligible for NDIS in Australia?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the support provided by the Australian Government to people suffering from disabilities. The scheme is for Australians under 65 with significant and permanent disabilities. However, if your child is under 9 years old, than you can seek the help of an early childhood partner for the betterment of your child.

Who is eligible for NDIS in Australia?

Those Children or adults who meet the following conditions are eligible for NDIS service in Australia. 

1. Age Requirements:

People or children willing to seek help from NDIS must be between 9 and 65 years old. So, persons above 65 years old and children below 9 years are not eligible for the NIDS services.

2. Residence requirements

The NDIS is only available to:

  1. Australian citizens.
  2. Permanent Visa holders.
  3. Protected Special Category Visa holders.

3. Disability requirements

NDIS is available for those children or people who have disability caused by a permanent impairment. The impairment may be intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychosocial. However, if you need disability specific supports to complete daily life activities, then you may be eligible.

4. Early intervention requirements

You may be eligible for NDIS support if you currently require assistance that can reduce your future need for support. Moreover,  your family needs help building the skills and capacity to better support you over time.

However, it does not cover the general living expenses like rent or groceries.
